Working with the artistic director and a research team, we designed and edited two 22’ x 6’ films that framed the gallery on curved walls, creating a moving dialog between the film subjects, the visitors and the artworks in the gallery.
‘The Great Mecca-Fest,’ is a 74 minute documentary film of Indonesian pilgrims journeying to Makkah shot in 1928 by Georg Krugers. We designed and edited into a 7 minute triptych adding journey maps and contextual material for The Islamic Arts Biennale.
Abul al Ghaffar, one of the earliest photographers in Makkah, was finally credited for his work and relationship with a Danish Scholar via still images: studio portraits, panoramas, city scapes of Makkah and surrounds.
